SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2005
Week 1
Below is the first preliminary data summary for the 2005 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico . This week's summary includes sampling June 2 by the Alabama vessel A.E. Verrill and sampling on June 1 and June 2 by Texas vessels. Catch data from the A.E. Verrill were taken with a 40-ft trawl. Catch data from the Texas vessels were taken with 20-ft trawls.
Plotted catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl (20-ft trawl x 2). Shrimp counts are heads-on. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids. The number in each grid square is the average catch or count from all stations (may be one or more stations) that were sampled within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.
The catch data from east of the Mississippi River indicated that the highest catch rate of pink shrimp was 4.6 lb/hr in 11 fm at 30° 06' N. lat. and 88° 08' W. long. No brown or white shrimp were caught east of the Mississippi River during this sampling period. The maximum total catch rate excluding the three shrimp species was 24 lb/hr in 18 fm at 29° 55' N. lat. and 88° 12' W. long.
The catch data from Texas indicated that the highest catch rate of brown shrimp was 3.1 lb/hr in 6 fm at 28° 19' N. lat. and 96° 13' W. long. The highest catch rate for white shrimp was 1.9 lb/hr in 8 fm at 28° 26' N. lat. and 96° 13' W. long. No pink shrimp were caught off Texas during this sampling period. The maximum total catch rate excluding the three shrimp species was 225 lb/hr in 6 fm at 29° 37' N. lat. and 93° 43' W. long.
Sampling coverage for the next weekly report will be by the Mississippi vessel Tommy Munro, Alabama's A.E. Verrill, and Texas vessels.
