SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2006
Week 1
Below is the first preliminary data summary for the 2006 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling June 1 through June 8 by the Alabama vessel A.E. Verrill, the Mississippi vessel Tommy Munro, and by Texas vessels. Catch data from the A.E. Verrill and Tommy Munro were taken with a 40-ft trawl. Catch data from the Texas vessels were taken with 20-ft trawls.
Plotted catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl (20-ft trawl x 2). Shrimp counts are heads-on. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids. The number in each grid square is the average catch or count from all stations (may be one or more stations) that were sampled within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.
The catch data from east of the Mississippi River indicated that the highest catch rate of brown shrimp was 30 lb/hr in 21 fm at 29° 23' N. lat. and 88° 47' W. long. The highest catch rate of white shrimp was 3.1 lb/hr in 15 fm at 30° 00' N. lat. and 88° 35' W. long. The highest catch rate of pink shrimp was 10.5 lb/hr in 23 fm at 29° 29' N. lat. and 88° 44' W. long. The maximum total catch rate excluding the three shrimp species was 260 lb/hr in 13 fm at 29° 81' N. lat. and 88° 35' W. long.
The catch data from Texas indicated that the highest catch rate of brown shrimp was 1.3 lb/hr in 8 fm at 28° 28' N. lat. and 96° 03' W. long. The highest catch rate for white shrimp was 6.3 lb/hr in 1 fm at 29° 40' N. lat. and 93° 51' W. long. No pink shrimp were caught off Texas during this sampling period. The maximum total catch rate excluding the three shrimp species was 192 lb/hr in 6 fm at 29° 34' N. lat. and 93° 50' W. long.
