SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2010
Week 1
Below is the first preliminary data summary for the 2010 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling from June 1 through June 4 by the Mississippi vessel Tommy Munro and by Texas vessels. Catch data from the Tommy Munro were taken with a 40-ft trawl. Catch data from the Texas vessels were taken with 20-ft trawls.
Plotted catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl (20-ft trawl x 2). Shrimp counts are heads-on. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids. The number in each grid square is the average catch or count from all stations (may be one or more stations) that were sampled within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.
The catch data indicated that the highest catch rate of brown shrimp was 3.6 lb/hr in 3 fm at 29° 37' N. lat. and 93° 55' W. long. The highest catch rate of white shrimp was 36.7 lb/hr in 4 fm at 29° 28' N. lat. and 94° 32' W. long. The highest catch rate of pink shrimp was 2.3 lb/hr in 8 fm at 30° 10' N. lat. and 88° 38' W. long. The maximum total catch rate excluding the three shrimp species was 17,793 lb/hr in 4 fm at 29° 35' N. lat. and 93° 55' W. long.
Sampling coverage for the next weekly report will be by Texas vessels, Alabama vessel A.E. Verrill, and the NMFS vessel Oregon II.
