SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2022

Week 2

Below is the second preliminary data summary for the 2022 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling from June 15-24 by Florida on the vessel Tommy Munro. Catch data were taken with a 40-ft trawl.

Plotted catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are heads-on. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids. The number in each grid square is the average catch or count from all stations (may be one or more stations) that were sampled within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.

Florida did not catch any brown or white shrimp. The highest catch rate of pink shrimp was 68.6 lb/hr in 7 fm at 24° 51' N. lat. and 82° 18' W. long. The maximum total catch rate excluding the three shrimp species was 2,825 lb/hr in 12 fm at 26° 31' N. lat. and 83° 05' W. long.

The NOAA vessel Oregon II is undergoing repairs and may not be able to participate in the Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey this year. NOAA Fisheries is scheduled to begin sampling the western Gulf onboard the Tommy Munro on July 13 so the next real time data distribution will be around July 19.
