SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2024
Week 2
Below is the the second preliminary data summary for the 2024 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling from June 2-11 by Mississippi and Alabama on the vessel Tommy Munro, Louisiana from June 10-14 on the vessel Pelican, and NMFS from June 10-14 on the vessel Oregon II. Catch data were taken with a 40-ft trawl..
Plotted catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are heads-on. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids. The number in each grid square is the average catch or count from all stations (may be one or more stations) that were sampled within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.
The catch data indicated that the highest catch rate of brown shrimp was 117.6 lb/hr in 15 fm at 28° 33' N. lat. and 95° 24' W. long. The highest catch rate of white shrimp was 26.7 lb/hr in 43 fm at 29° 18' N. lat. and 92° 35' W. long. The highest catch rate of pink shrimp was 11.0 lb/hr in 16 fm at 27° 39' N. lat. and 83° 17' W. long. The maximum total catch rate including the three shrimp species was 1,823 lb/hr in 17 fm at 29° 21' N. lat. and 84° 27' W. long.
