SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2001
Week 3
This is the third preliminary data summary for the 2001 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling from June 8 through June 16 by the TOMMY MUNRO, sampling from Texas vessels on June 18, and sampling on June 25 from Alabama's A.E. VERRILL. Catch data from the A.E. VERRILL and TOMMY MUNRO were taken with a 40-ft trawl. Catch data from the Texas vessels were taken with 20-ft trawls.
Catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are heads-off. Catch rates for finfish are given in the charts divided by 10; e.g., a charted catch rate of 19 means 190 lb/hr. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids and contain an average catch or count from one or more sampling stations within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.
The catch data east of the River indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 37.8 lb/hr of 58-count shrimp at 29°29.2' N. lat. and 88°38.8' W. long., in 19 fm. The catch data east of the River indicated that the highest pink shrimp catch rate was 8.1 lb/hr of 49-count shrimp at 29°36.6' N. lat. and 88°35.3' W. long., in 12 fm. White shrimp catch rates were generally low east of the River.
The highest finfish catch rate east of the River was 217 lb/hr reported in 19 fm at 29°29.2' W. lat. and 88°38.8' W. long., with Gulf butterfish being the dominant finfish species.
The catch data for Texas indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 16.4 lb/hr of 35-count shrimp at 28°21.5' N. lat. and 96°12.5' W. long., in 9 fm. The catch data for Texas indicated that the highest white shrimp catch rate was 3.3 lb/hr of 11-count shrimp at 28°21.5' N. lat. and 96°12.5' W. long., in 9 fm. Pink shrimp catch rates were generally low off Texas this past week.
The highest finfish catch rate for Texas was 359 lb/hr reported in 1 fm at 29°19.5' W. lat. and 94°43.4' W. long., with catfish being the dominant finfish species.
Due to repairs on the OREGON II, real-time data will not be distributed next week.
