SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2001
Week 4
This is the fourth preliminary data summary for the 2001 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling from July 3 through July 8 by the National Marine Fisheries Service aboard the TOMMY MUNRO. Catch data from the TOMMY MUNRO were taken with a 40-ft trawl. Due to personnel and time constraints, individual catch data for croaker, spot, trout, catfish and dominant species were not taken.
Catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are heads-off. Catch rates for finfish are given in the charts divided by 10; e.g., a charted catch rate of 19 means 190 lb/hr. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids and contain an average catch or count from one or more sampling stations within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.
The catch data west of the River indicate that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 31.7 lb/hr of 37-count shrimp at 28°33.0' N. lat. And 91°14.7' W. long., in 17 fm. Pink shrimp catch rates were generally low west of the River. The catch data west of the River indicate that the highest white shrimp catch rate was 3.7 lb/hr of 15-count shrimp at 28°42.1' N. lat. And 91°13.8' W. long., in 9 fm.
The highest finfish catch rate west of the River was 980 lb/hr at 28°36.3' N. lat. And 91°20.0' W. long. in 15 fm. Dominant finfish species data was not available.
Repairs on the OREGON II have been completed, and real-time data should be available for distribution next week.
