SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2003

Week 5

This week's summary includes sampling from June 30 through July 8 by the NOAA Ship OREGON II, Alabama's A.E. VERRILL, and Mississippi's TOMMY MUNRO. Catch data from the OREGON II, A.E. VERRILL, and TOMMY MUNRO were taken with a 40-ft trawl.

Catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are heads-off. Catch rates for finfish are given in the charts divided by 10; e.g., a charted catch rate of 19 means 190 lb/hr. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids and contain an average catch or count from one or more sampling stations within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.

The catch data east of the River indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 60.0 lb/hr of 60-count shrimp at 30°03.5' N. lat. and 88°59.5' W. long., in 3 fm. The highest white shrimp catch rate was 7.8 lb/hr of 17-count shrimp at 30°10.5' N. lat. and 88°30.9' W. long., in 7 fm. The highest pink shrimp catch rate was 1.4 lb/hr of 49-count shrimp at 30°06.0' N. lat. and 88°31.3' W. long., in 9 fm. The highest finfish catch rate west of the River was 49 lb/hr reported at 30°06.0' N. lat. and 88°31.3' W. long., in 9 fm, with no predominant finfish species.

The catch data west of the River indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 1.5 lb/hr of 35-count shrimp at 28°46.3' N. lat. and 93°48.9' W. long., in 13 fm. No white shrimp were caught west of the River during this sampling period. The highest pink shrimp catch rate was 1.0 lb/hr of 17-count shrimp at 28°46.3' N. lat. and 93°48.9' W. long., in 13 fm. The highest finfish catch rate west of the River was 142 lb/hr reported at 28°55.3' N. lat. and 93°14.3' W. long., in 13 fm, with no predominant finfish species.

The catch data for Texas indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 26.7 lb/hr of 41-count shrimp at 28°40.2' N. lat. and 94°45.6' W. long., in 15 fm. The highest white shrimp catch rate was 36.2 lb/hr of 16-count shrimp at 29°21.9' N. lat. and 94°20.1' W. long., in 8 fm. The highest pink shrimp catch rate was 0.7 lb/hr of 28-count shrimp at the same location. The highest finfish catch rate for Texas was 1,813 lb/hr also at the same location, with Atlantic croaker being the predominant finfish species.
