SEAMAP Real-time Plots for the year 2003

Week 7

This is the seventh and last preliminary data summary for the 2003 SEAMAP Summer Shrimp/Groundfish Survey in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This week's summary includes sampling from July 14 through July 16 by the NOAA Ship OREGON II. Catch data from the OREGON II were taken with a 40-ft trawl.

Catch rates have been converted to pounds per hour for a 40-ft trawl. Shrimp counts are heads-off. Catch rates for finfish are given in the charts divided by 10; e.g., a charted catch rate of 19 means 190 lb/hr. The squares on the charts are 10-minute grids and contain an average catch or count from one or more sampling stations within a particular grid. The sampling stations were located randomly by depth zone.

The catch data east of the River indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 43.4 lb/hr of 60-count shrimp at 30°01.5' N. lat. and 88°20.7' W. long., in 13 fm. No white shrimp were caught east of the River during this sampling period. The highest pink shrimp catch rate was 9.3 lb/hr of 37-count shrimp at 30°02.0' N. lat. and 88°19.0' W. long., in 12 fm. The highest finfish catch rate was 1,407 lb/hr reported at 29°14.0' N. lat. and 88°17.1' W. long., in 50 fm, with Atlantic croaker being the predominant finfish species.

The catch data west of the River indicated that the highest brown shrimp catch rate was 34.4 lb/hr of 76-count shrimp at 28°44.3' N. lat. and 90°20.6' W. long., in 13 fm. The highest white shrimp catch rate was 0.9 lb/hr of 26-count shrimp at 29°02.2' N. lat. and 89°45.6' W. long., in 19 fm. No pink shrimp were caught during this sampling period west of the River. The highest finfish catch rate west of the River was 617 lb/hr reported at 28°44.3' N. lat. and 90°20.6' W. long., in 13 fm, with Atlantic croaker being the predominant finfish species.
